Art Buddies

In past years CVA has had several students and faculty participate in this rewarding experience. Michelle Reid most recently. Please consider it yourself this spring. It's a great way to network, plus you will be giving something wonderful to a child in definite need.

Be a Creative Buddy to an Inner-city Child.
Want to use your creative powers to help a child who needs you? Be an Art Buddy!

Join our "Who are YOU ZOO!"
Starting this April, you'll work one-on-one with your child, once a week for six weeks. You'll create side-by-side with fifty other creative people from advertising, design and architecture.

You'll help the kids see themselves as powerful and important by identifying with the positive characteristics of animals. (For example: hyenas laugh a lot, cheetahs run fast, salmon never give up, dolphins are smart, and elephants love their families.) Your child will choose an animal that represents something he/she's good at, then together, you'll create a fanciful animal costume.

We'll have lots of art supplies to work with, including fur, feathers, shiny papers, yarn, fabric and all sorts of wacky stuff.

At the end of the program, professional photographers will shoot photos of you your child, then you'll show off the children's creations in an exciting parade. Afterwards, we invite all fifty volunteers to gather at a bar in Uptown.

About the Art Buddies program
Art Buddies pairs 50 creative people from the advertising, design and architectural fields with 50 children, ages 9 and 10, from low-income families in south Minneapolis. Our mission is to help the kids discover their creative gifts and develop exciting new visions of themselves. We carry out our mission thanks to the generosity of creative volunteers like you.

Art Buddies is a program of Creatives for Causes, a nonprofit organization founded in 1994 by former art director/designer Sue Crolick. Major funding by Communication Arts magazine, office and technology support by Carmichael Lynch.
