5th Annual Square Lake Solstice Festival

This is a CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS for the 5th annual Square Lake Solstice Festival, an outdoor celebration of Minnesota's best animation, short film, and music. We're looking for local animations and short films under 10 minutes. We welcome submissions from ALL ages and experiences.

The Solstice Festival is one of several annual local film/music events coordinated by Square Lake Productions, an arts-based group that received a McKnight grant in 2005 and whose mission statement is to establish new and creative venues for film in Minnesota.

  • This year's festival features a commissioned film score performance and headlining set by Low.
  • This is a juried film festival with prizes. More info available on website.
  • Films submitted to this festival will also be considered for additional screening opportunities during the summer of 2006 including the 2nd annual Greenman Film Festival in Duluth, Free Range Film Festival and more TBA
Submission deadline EXTENDED TO May 15th.

What people have to say about the festival:

"I've lived and worked as an animator in Minneapolis since 1987 and one thing I've always had to find outside of Minneapolis, namely at film festivals, was the sense of being a part of a community of other animators. It's been exciting to see what Paul Creager has started to do with his Solstice Festival. He's starting to organize the disparate students, independents and commercial producers around a single event. This is unprecedented in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, at least in the time that I've lived here."
Tom Schroeder, Animation professor MCAD

"Square Lake Productions performs a vital role in helping to create venues and opportunities for film artists to create and share their work with a wide range of audiences, most of whom would be otherwise hard-pressed to access locally-made films."
Eric Grumdahl, Filmmaker

SOLSTICE FESTIVAL CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS DEADLINE EXTENDED
The 5th annual Square Lake Solstice Festival has extended its call for submissions until May 13th. The addition of two promotional events prior to this year's festival on June 17th has increased the amount of film programming time available. We warmly welcome the opportunity this creates to serve even more local artists. Pass this information along to other animators/filmmakers that you know, and visit www.solsticefestival.org for all submission info.

This year's Solstice Festival features a film score performance by Low, local animation/film on two screens, and live music from Happy Apple, The Deaths, Wild Indigo Reed Trio, The Field and more TBA.

This is a great opportunity for you to screen your work at a picturesque outdoor venue, and enjoy a fine music festival at the same time.
Filmmakers will gain regional exposure via publicity materials, local radio, two promotional events at Solera's rooftop films in Mpls & MMAA's Thursday patio night in St. Paul, Solstice Festival website, and a diverse audience at the festival. This is a juried festival with prizes. Don't miss these opportunities.

Paul Creager
